from 2688 reviewsI got a 2.5 baritone saxophone reed for playing in my school's jazz band. It was too strong for my mouthpiece tip opening but it works very well with my Yamaha 5C mouthpiece for playing with a concert band ensemble. Legere is absolutely amazing with their exchange program and is very straightforward to help me get a softer American cut reed, I got to keep my original reed while they shipped the softer one very quickly, thank you so much Legere!
The 3.5 tenor sax reeds work great for me on bass clarinet. Thanks!
The reed arrived yesterday, 3-29-25. I immediately tried it out. This happened to be a replacement reed (thank you, Legere, for this remarkable exchange option). I ordered a #3-strength European cut reed. Response -- Excellent throughout the instrument range, warm dark sound throughout the range, performed consistently from pp to ff. This will not be the last Legere reed I'll buy. Outstanding product.
I did not have high hopes but this reed can really sound good and plays easily with decent intonation. Yes it is expensive but if you don’t have the time to make your own reeds it is worth it.
Simple but stylish.
Decent quality and construction.
Gets the job done!
I switched from cane reeds to Legere synthetic reeds about six yrs. ago. Have been nothing but amazed with the playability & durability of Legere reeds. I’ve use the “Studio Cut”, “American Cut” as well as the “Classic Cut” I have yet to try the “European Cut” but no doubt will also try those in the future. Can’t thank the folks at Legere’ for producing such a fine & innovative product!!!!
I have found the french cut alto reed to be just a bit more mellow than the American cut reed. When I want to be bold and cutting I use the American cut and when I want to be more expressive musically with my alto I use the French cut. I originally purchased the 2.5 size but with the generous exchange program I was able to receive the 2.25 size which turns out to be the exact size of reed which works for me.
Great response throughout the range of the horn. Excellent tone and sounds the same every time I play! Love it!
I've been playing alto for a few years and have my tenor which I use only from time to time, and it's always been a problem to find a light yet nicely sounding reed for it, and Legere 1.5 is just perfect: sounds great and it's really unbreakable comparing to those almost paper-thin but wooden ones.
I had a nice 1.5 reed for my alto, and after a year of playing ordered 2.25 and it fits just perfect. I like that the step between the strength can be 0.25. And my two saxes now have much more punch and body to the sound )
I have used Légère reeds since they first appeared on the market.
This reed has good tone and is very responsive.
French cut reed has a very nice sound. Is nicely responsive, and much easier to deal with to start playing. Good for intermittent playing during an event where you are switching instruments or duties in a performance (pit orchestra for musicals, alternating between conductor and player, long intervals during church services or programs). For long gigs, you do have to take a break and swab the reed and mouthpiece dry as the reed dies not absorb the blowing moisture but a better tradeoff than preping a different reed completely.
