Bb Clarinet French Cut
I have struggled to regain my playing skills after a long layoff. I was getting very discouraged until I discovered the French cut reed. It plays with virtually no effort. I’m stunned at how good it sounds. I’m very grateful that this reed is available.
What a difference playing Legere reeds has made in my life as a professional clarinetist! I am an Emeritus principal member of the Grammy Award-winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and also an Emeritus Professor of Clarinet/Chamber Music at Montclair State University. I can only shake my head when I think of all the hours upon hours I used to spend looking for decent Vandoren reeds to play. Now, once I found the right mouthpiece and strength of Legere reed, my dream of just having to put my clarinet together to sound great - I have a sound that is warm and beautiful, flexible in terms of dynamics with even articulation through almost 4 octaves - has come true! Thank you Legere for making playing so much more enjoyable. PS I am as busy as ever performing as a soloist with local orchestras here in SoCal and in chamber music as well!

My first Legere was a European cut, which was OK for me, but I found that it lost its “best sound” fairly quickly. I have not found that to be true with the French cut. They play great, and for a long time. The best part of legere reeds for me is when I’m teaching. I live in the northern Midwest which gets cold and dry for much of the year, and I got tired of having to re-wet my read to demonstrate Something for my student anytime I hadn’t been playing for, I don’t know, maybe 20 seconds? The legere is ready to go all of the time! It’s also great with rehearsals and performing to know that whatever my reed situation is, I always have a legere that can get the job done.
The French Cut reed responded very well with my open-faced mouthpiece.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the reed!
