At the recommendation of another Alto Clarinet player I decided to try Legere Alto Sax reeds on m my Alto Clarinet. I play a Clarke Fobes 10K Alto Clarinet mouthpiece with a Vandoren Optimum ligature. I tried the Legere Alto Sax French Cut, American Cut and Signature reeds all 3.00. I had a bit of success with the French cut, but felt the 3.00 was too stiff for me. I was not able to produce a quality sound using the American cut or the Signature. I requested an exchange of all 3 reeds and in true Legere excellent customer service fashion, they granted the requested exchanges. I received the exchanges quickly and tried the French cut 2.75 I requested and I had much more success with this strength. It is still a bit stiff for me, but I am improving the more I play it. Legere exchanged the other 2 reeds for Bb clarinet reeds for me. I have been playing Legere reeds on my Bb and Eb soprano clarinets for years. I am a Legere enthusiast and am hoping I can find just the right Legere reed for my Alto Clarinet! I was able to gift the 3 Alto Sax reeds I couldn't use to a sax player in my wind ensemble to try. I hope they have success with them. Thank you Legere customer service for making the exchanges so easy. I'll be ordering an Alto Sax French cut 2.50 soon.
I started on Rico 2 cane, then went to Vandoren 2.5 for awhile. This Christmas Santa bought me a 2.25. Standard Legere. I took it out tonight and it sounded effortlessly!! The sound precise and well rounded… beautiful tone regardless of slow romantic or jazzy tune... Well worth it!!
Couldn't think of a better title so. Using legere signature reeds on all 4 of the common saxophones. What I like best is they are consistent from low B flat to altissimo F sharp and they don't dry out. I have some issues with developing cotton mouth when playing in large ensembles and they eliminate this. Overall a quality product and a great improvement in the synthetic reed category. I should note that I'm old enough to remember Fiber Cane reeds being the best thing since butter on bread.
I’m 75 years old and have been playing sax since I was 12. After laying the horn down for several years I’m back at it playing several times a week and loving it. My biggest concern before playing for an event has always been reeds. I am not one to spend time trying to clip, sand, file, or pray over a reed. Thank goodness Legere came along. I’ve used several varieties of their reeds and have discovered the Singnature works best for me. The confidence of knowing my sound is going to be just the way I like gives me the confidence to go for the altissimo and get funky with the low ones.
Signature is a high quality reed and give me confidence in playing classical music
We truly appreciate your feedback and are grateful for your kind words!
