I use this reed for my pit orchestra doubling. It is always available and sounds great in all registers.
It has more bite and is easier to play than the signature.
These reeds got me through University and totally changed the game! Great for traveling gigs
I have been using Legere Reeds for about 7 years now. It took a well to find the selection that I prefer but I'm happen with the Signature reed for now. It also took a minute for me to choose the right strength so for now I'm using 2.75. I would like to use a 3.0 but I'm not getting any younger. It's so gratifying not to work on a reed for 3 days (a little exaggeration) to play on it in public. I do not leave home without 2 of these reeds in my case.
Still working on my wife who makes her own reeds to ask before ordering a trial, but my son won't even consider not using legere. Still breaking in this one but they always sound great. And the bassoon reed had to be kept wet.... just plug and play with legere!
During this year's band concert our son has a soprano solo dor the opening of the second song... reed plays amazingly well without having to keep wet on the off songs and a couple of musicians commented on how good the sound was. Not to take away from a hs freshman performance, but good equipment matters.
The reeds are fairly consistent reed to reed. Lasts a long time and gives a variety of tone colors. I exclusively use legere french cut 3.75 on alto!
Easy switch from cane. Plays smooth with a slightly softer tone. Requires slightly more jaw pressure but not bad at all.
I have purchased several Baritone sax reeds in the last 3 years from Legere and loved them all. I hadn't touched a clarinet in 65 years. Bought a Bass clarinet on Bay, and ordered the Bass clarinet "classic" 2.0 strength from Legere the reed is, as with the Baritone sax reeds , fantastic. no warping, ready to play instantly with no prewetting. They just "work". Still figuring out how to get it to not "squeak" in the higher part of the upper register. Not the fault of the reed some is me some is the Leblanc instrument.
I have struggled to regain my playing skills after a long layoff. I was getting very discouraged until I discovered the French cut reed. It plays with virtually no effort. I’m stunned at how good it sounds. I’m very grateful that this reed is available.
I've been using the American Cut reeds on both alto and tenor for over 2 years. My first impression was - WOW! This is like the old days when buying a box of cane reeds and finding the one "amazing" reed that played great. Legere reeds have all been great for me - good response and tone over the full range of my horns - even altissimo. I am so happy to have more time playing instead of searching and adjusting. Also, another benefit is being able to switch between alto and tenor with having to be concerned about a cane reed drying out.
The Signature 3.5 works great on soprano! It has a clean response and extremely wide color palette at all dynamics; it's especially useful at high altitude and cold weather.
I'm a student clarinetist, and I was getting tired of my cane reeds always warping and trying to control humidity and all that, so I decided to switch to synthetics. My previous experience wit them wasn't great, but legere reeds worked really well!!!!!!! I think the French cut works best for my current setup (Vandoren M40 mouthpiece). They are not completely perfect (I find it is a tiny bit more difficult to maintain a pure tone at softer dynamics), but in my opinion their consistency causes them to easily exceed cane. Also the fact that they do not dry out is really helpful when doubling, or waiting before a performance. And I do save time by not having to break them in too. Overall I really like them!!!!!!!!!!
