The Légère Bassoon reed is the first synthetic double reed on par with a well-made cane reed. The reed is easy to play and comfortable in the embouchure. It has the consistency, durability and dependability that players demand, while maintaining the warmth and body of cane. It is recommended for Bassoon players of all experience levels.

Not to be dramatic…

But this reed actually changed my life. I’ve always struggled getting my reed’s consistent. I don’t have the time it takes, so I just played on suboptimal reeds. The first time I played on this reed I couldn’t believe how even the tone was top to bottom! I was also having a hard time getting my mid f# in tune and it was completely locked in and stable with this reed! 😭
Side note, I played a concert for the first time wearing lipstick and it just wiped right off!!

Thank you for the thoughtful and detailed review, we appreciate your comments!

Legere bassoon reed M

Really enjoying my new reed. Equally responsive in all registers. Pitch is perfect in the low register and able to consistently play soft. Wonderful customer support from Sean. Thank you.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the reed!

Actually plays accurately

I got my bassoon second-hand, and the owner had several (10+) reeds with it. None seemed to work well, and most were at least half a step off of the note I was playing. I'm a new player, so I don't have the skill or knowledge to try and fix these reeds, either with my embouchure or by shaving or whatever else. I use Legere reeds for my saxophone, and they're the best thing ever (way cheaper than cane because they last so much longer while sounding better), so I expect the same from this one. So far so good! It's super easy to use (no soaking or other wonky care needs), and sounds accurate! We'll see on the longevity front, but my saxophone reed lasted almost a year before I even started considering replacing it, so I'm hoping for something similar here!

Thank you for the thoughtful and detailed review, we appreciate your comments!

Perfect but scary to handle

Wouldn’t want to drop this! But it’s so consistent! So I have to buy them.

Thanks for the review!

Reeds for chinooks

Living in a place where the weather conditions fluctuate greatly, the stability of these reeds is a life saver. I particularly like the openness of the low range. I find notes above the high “f” are a bit more challenging to control for intonation but I am finding a way.
I wish every beginner could start with these reeds unfortunately my students find the price prohibitive.
I would love to see a significant price drop to make them more available to young students.

Thank you for the thoughtful and kind review, glad you're enjoying the reed!
