WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. If you are unsatisfied with your clarinet or saxophone reed, please begin the exchange process regardless of where you purchased it in the world.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

all stars

I have been playing saxes, clarinet and flute professionally since I was in high school and touring the US and Europe since 1969. I still play weekly with a blues and rock band at 80. I have an old dental cabinet full of cane reeds but I have not used cane for about 5 years, using Legere for tenor, alto, soprano, bari and clarinet because the sound, the dependability, consistency, and convenience can’t be beat. Every time I pick up an instrument I know it will be ready to play, especially at outdoor venues. I donated many boxes of cane to Cuban students when I visited because I don’t see myself going back to the problems of wood.

Tenor Sax American Cut 2.50

It plays so freely and evenly throughout the entire range of the horn, even the altissimo. Love the tone and quick response as well.

Thanks for the kind review!

First time user. Blown away!

Love love love these reeds. I’ve been playing plasticover reeds for over 20 years, but this are just outright killer! I love the sound, it’s huge, but has the bite I need. The response is fantastic.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

The only reed I use anymore

After years of messing around with reeds - shaving, burnishing, clipping, tossing unplayable ones - Legere has ended all that. They play perfectly right out of the box. Every time. I’ve never thrown one away - even after months of playing. You don’t even have to get them wet. I can start my horn on a low B-flat at something less than forte. I’ve tried the different cuts add have settled on the American because it’s just a little bit brighter than the signature. But that’s a minor difference; I could play any Legere cut and be happier with it than any natural reed I’ve ever played. Yeah, one reed costs about the same as a box of cane, but it also plays at least as long as all the reeds in that box. And I've haven’t touched a reed-care tool in the last 3 years.
Legere reeds play stiffer; I used to play a 3.5 in cane and now play a 2.5 or 2.75 (depends on the mouthpiece and the venue). But Legere's return policy made that discovery process free and easy.

We're so thankful for your positive review and are glad you had a great experience!

My First Legere Reed

I received my first Legere Reed (Tenor Sax) a few weeks ago. It was a little "stiff" for my liking at first, but it seemed to have "loosened up" after about 1 1/2 hours of playing. I love the response, the sound, and hitting the harmonics has never been easier. You have a customer for as long as I am able to perform.

Your feedback means a lot to us—thank you for sharing your review!
