Brooks Thon studied at Interlochen Arts Academy under Richard Hawkins, at the University of Michigan with Fred Omand, at Depaul wtih Larry Combs, and at Toho Orchestra Academy with Yoshiaki Suzuki. He has been the Principal Clarinet of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra since 2004 and is currently the  Associate Professor at Aichi Fine Arts University in Japan.

Brooks is also a Backun Endorsing Artist.
