Billy Bouffard is originally from Princeville, Quebec. In 2003, he obtained a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in the studio of Dick Oatts and Dave Liebman. Billy received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Interpretation with distinction from Concordia University in 1998. He took part in three major jazz workshop: The Lake Placid Jazz Seminars in New York, The Jazz Workshops at the Banff Center for the Arts and The Carnegie Hall Jazz Workshop in New York. During those workshops Billy was able to study and play with amazing musicians such as Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman,Tim Haggans, Dick Oatts, Dave Douglas, John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, Billy Hart, Kenny Werner, Jim McNeely, Judy Silvano, Hugh Fraser, Rufus Reid, Kenny Baron and Cecil Bridgewater.
Billy is an active freelancing musician on the Montreal scene and he loves playing all the saxophones as well as flute and clarinet. We can hear him with the Funkxie Groove Band or with Jocelyn Couture's MF Project Tribute to Maynard Ferguson. Active as a saxophone/jazz band specialist for many high schools in the province, Billy is also a Yamaha Canada and Legere Reeds Artist Clinician. Billy teaches saxophone at the Montreal Jazz Festival Blues Camp, Cegep de Drummondville and Concordia University.
