Bass Clarinet European Cut

Product Info
Profile Map

The most comfortable, stable, and articulate clarinet reed Légère produces. The European Cut for Bass Clarinet is wider than the Signatures with a shorter vamp and a band of material down the spine. The reed gives the player the control needed to stand out in a solo performance or blend into the ensemble.

WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. If you are unsatisfied with your clarinet or saxophone reed, please begin the exchange process regardless of where you purchased it in the world.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

Feels very reed-like to play with more flexibility

This reed is very fun to play on and allows me to more effortlessly get the notes and articulations I want. I previously played on the Classic Cut on a similar strength (I'm using a 2.75) and the European Cut solves any slight flexibility issues I had with the other cut. The sound from playing this reed isn't too thin and is very similar to that of a wooden reed. Would definitely buy this again when I need a new one!

Impressive response

The first time I played a note with this reed, I was amazed at how responsive it sounded. The tone burst forth unbelievably.

Liking it

This is my first reed of this kind. I am liking it. Might have to try a #3 after saving money for it.

smoother playing than classic

The European cut bass clarinet reed makes transitions between registers much smoother than the Classic. both are good but with my first try, I like the European cut better. It is definitely worth the higher price. Of course like all legere reeds it is ready to play with no wetting, and no warping. The European cut seems less sensitive to precise reed position. One doesn't need to be as particular with the exact location as with the classic. Great reeds. I'l never go back to cane reeds.

Love this reed! This is my 3rd order of this reed style.

I returened to playing Bass Clarinet after an almost 50 hiatus after college. I found that the Signature reed series replaces a traditional reed but the Eurpean Cut style offers that best performance in all registers. I have finaly worn one out after about 9 months of playing. I now have type II diabetes and sometings suffer from dry mouth due to associated medication. The sysnthetic reeds allow me to play without concern over reed wetting.

Bass Clarinet. Euro cut reed

My wife and I both play the Legere Euro Cut reeds on her Buffet Prestige bass clarinet. We’ve tried lots of different reeds but now only play with a 2.0 or 2.25 Euro Cut.

We're so thankful for your positive review and are glad you had a great experience!
