WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. If you are unsatisfied with your clarinet or saxophone reed, please begin the exchange process regardless of where you purchased it in the world.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

Alto Sax American Cut Reed

I perform with 5 bands playing mostly "cover" music. I love the bright sound that is produced with the American Cut Reed, fits perfectly with my Runyun "Spoiler" metal mouthpiece. One person stated "your sound is like David Sanborn"...one of the best compliments I've ever been given.

Plays great

I go back and forth between the American cut and French cut, but I've really been enjoying the American cut lately. It's hot and humid in Texas, and I like the consistency of these reeds.

Even Steady Ready

I am an advanced player. I use the American cut 2.25 Alto with my Drake metal Sanborn and find it very responsive and free blowing. The beauty of the Legere reed is the readiness to play, no prepping a reed. One reed is exactly like another. Make consistency a reality.
I use the American Cut 2.5 tenor with my Theo Wanne Shiva. It gives response and evenness of tone. Will not go back to wood reeds.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We're thrilled to know you enjoyed your reed.

Awesome response and tonsl quality

I recently purchased my first Legere reeds, an American cut for alto sax and a French cut for soprano. My impressions of the alto sax reed is as follows:

The instantaneous response to the reed is exceptional! Even at pianissimo volume the response is strong, precise, and the tonal quality is more than I could have hoped for in any reed, much less a synthetic reed. I was a little skeptical about purchasing a synthetic reed initially, but my experience won't me over.
I'm working on preparing Claude T Smith's "Fantasia" and Glazunov's Concerto, and this reed is improving my tone and response by leaps and bounds! I'm thrilled that I took a chance on Legere,!!!!

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We're thrilled to know you enjoyed your reed.

Loving the American Cut!

I've been using the Signature reeds for quite awhile... Just tried the American Cut, and I'm loving it! It seems to blow really clear and is beautiful for all three registers on my classical mouthpiece. Gonna try it for my jazz set-up as well and see how it sounds.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
