WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

It's easy

I am trying Legere reeds. They are very similar feel to natural reeds and last longer. And you can buy same quality of reeds every time! I am satisfied with Legere reeds so far.

French Cut Legere for Bb clarinet

I've been a Legere user since they came out in the 1990s. I've enjoyed using the European cut reeds for years, but decided to give the French cut a whirl. I bought a couple, then a few more, and then more. I'm really enjoying these reeds.

French Cut Clarinet Reed is Great

I have played European Cut Clarinet Reeds exclusively since they first entered the market. I have been very happy with their sound and response. However, I recently purchased a French Cut Clarinet Reed and I think it is even better! The reed has a dark rich sound, stability of tone in all registers, and great response.

Very Easy Playing!

I've been trying all of the Legere reeds and am really enjoying the French Cut that I recently purchased. Free blowing and nice, full sound. I use a #3. You can't go wrong with Legere!

Responsive Reed and great customer care.

I have always used canes reeds. I have been an active clarinetist for more than 50 years. Being curious about “plastic” reeds I asked colleagues that used them to make a recommendation to me. Legere came to the top of suggested purchases. I read about the different types of Legere reeds and decided the French Cut description best fit the sound I like to have. After reading reviews I selected 2 reed strengths, 3.25 and a 3.5. I use a 3.5 blue box Vandoren for cane. When the reeds arrived, nicely packed,I used the 3.5 first. It was glorious to play bottom to top of the clarinet with ease and have no difficulty with articulation. The only drawback was the Reed was too soft and therefore played flat. I had wonderful prompt service when I contacted Legere. At my request I received a 3.75 and was told to keep the other reeds. I will definitely be purchasing my next Legere here. I just played a dress rehearsal for a musical last night using the 3.75, great and my lip recovered much quicker because there are no cane fibers irritating my lip. Thanks so much for opening this door for me.

Excellent tone and consistency

After playing on wood reeds for most of my career I was pleasantly surprised by the tonal quality that I was able to obtain from this reed. Also unlike a wood reed it can be played on immediately without any break in period. This has definitely provided a huge boost to my practicing and performing.
