Légère reeds and I go back to the 90s but most importantly, following my hand injury Légère reeds allowed me to develop a beautiful tone without hours of cane work. Discovering my voice with Légère has saved my career and allowed me to be truly happy performing again.

Over the past three decades, clarinetist Mary Alice Druhan has performed around the world as a soloist and in chamber ensembles including DeuxEaux, CoCane Clarinets, Triforia Winds, New Texas Sinfonia, Dallas Festival of Modern Music, Mount Vernon Music, and the Color of Sound. She has also performed with many professional orchestras and bands in that time, including the Dallas Winds, the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” Natchez Opera, Ohio Light Opera, Baton Rouge Symphony, Acadiana Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, Shreveport Opera, East Texas Symphony, Plano Symphony, Wichita Falls Symphony, and Sherman Symphony.
Being a proponent of modern music, her latest premieres have been solo and chamber commissions from composer Ben Stonaker and duo and electronic works for CoCane Clarinets from composer/producer Christopher Heine.
Since 2002, she has served as Professor of Clarinet at East Texas A&M University where she has been recognized in the areas of teaching and research by the H.M. Lafferty Distinguished Faculty Award, the James “Jim” Vornberg Award for Teaching, the Faculty Senate award for “Unfettered Thought in RSCA,” and by nomination for the Regents Professorship in 2020.
Dr. Druhan has suffered and recovered from a serious playing-related injury in 2011. This inspired her research, writing, and clinics addressing musician injury, prevention, and recovery. She has written numerous articles for The Clarinet and Pan Pipes and has presented clinics around the country. She recently completed her first book, The One-Handed Clarinetist’s Workbook: A Resource for Individual Hand Development and Injury-Recovery Periods (CAMco, 2022).
