Being a native of North Carolina, Clyde Cumberlander, Jr. grew up in the city of Shelby which is about 45 miles west of Charlotte. At an early age Cumberlander began his love affair with music

After entering Crest High School, his career began to blossom starting with the opportunity to work on recording projects with the legendary award winning gospel great Pastor John P. Kee. Popularity was further gained by being a lead man and side man for other groups on a local Charlotte Syndicated Gospel TV Show, "Opportunity Knocks".  This made way for opportunities to be a sideman for groups such as "God's Anointed", "Gifted", "Minister Patricia Clark", "Cleveland County Mass Choir", "Chris Brinson", "Maria Howell", to name a few.
